'They told me I was getting fat!' Former child star Raven-Symoné says her weight was being watched since age seven and she wasn't allowed to eat bagels

Hollywood is well-known for favouring slim stars - with women especially feeling the pressure to stay in shape.

But it may come as a shock to find out just how early those expectations begin in Tinseltown.

Former child star Raven-Symoné revealed on Tuesday that since the age of seven her weight was being watched and food portions were being controlled.

'I remember not being able to have the bagel or anything at [craft services] - we call it crafty - where it's just a table of food ready for you to eat whenever you want,' the now 29-year-old told her co-stars on ABC's The View.

'And I remember people were like, "You can't eat that. You're getting fat," the former child star explained about her days on set of Disney's That's So Raven.

'I'm like, "I'm seven! I'm hungry!"'

Raven had lamented about how challenging it was to maintain a healthy body image while growing up in the entertainment industry.

The pressure to not put on weight even lasted until the former child star had reached 180 pounds on set of That's So Raven, which an from 2003 to 2007.

Raven said she definitely felt 'depressed' about not living up to certain societal standards of beauty.

Once the comedy series wrapped, she was so stressed that she had taken a break from Hollywood

It was during that time, the TV personality was able to focus on her health and shed 70 pounds.

Raven joined The View family last month following Rosie O'Donnell's sudden departure.

Prior to co-hosting, the actress had also appeared on the show as a guest host 37 times.

Raven-Symoné said of her new role: 'The Disney Company has made another one of my dreams come true! Being a part of The View family will be a wonderful growing experience for me.

The cast and crew are warm and welcoming and has made the transition into daytime talk easier. I have a lot to learn within this new arena, but being the apprentice of these spectacular women will only make me a better person and talk show host.'

Raven-Symoné got her start on The Cosby Show, before landing her own Disney show That's So Raven. Most recently, she has appeared on Empire and Black-ish.

The star has also been dating model AzMarie Livingston since 2011.
