Justin Gatlin defeats Usain Bolt in the final solo race of his career and bows to him

It wasn't the kind of end to a career the world expected as American athlete, Justin Gatlin gatecrashed Usain Bolt’s finale to claim the 100m world championship title. At the end of the race, Gatlin bowed down to Bolt.

Gatlin won a highly-charged race in 9.92 seconds as Bolt could only come third behind Christian Coleman.

With this sad defeat, Usain Bolt the great Jamaican will retire after the IAAF World Championships in London, bringing the curtain down on an incomparable career.

Bolt finished with a time of 9.95, behind Gatlin’s 9.92 seconds and Coleman’s 9.94. His world record from 2009 remains intact at 9.58.
For years, Usain Bolt has been unbeatable. With his 2009 world record of 9.58 in the 100 meters seemingly untouchable, the Jamaican sprinter’s dominance remained on display even when he finished nowhere near it.

Going into the 100-meter final of the track and field world championships in London on Saturday, it was assumed Bolt would claim another world title in his signature event.

But with a combination of Bolt’s slow start and American Justin Gatlin’s late surge, the fastest man in the world was upset in his last 100-meter race. Gatlin claimed his first world championship in 12 years, while Bolt finished third behind American Christian Coleman. It was Bolt’s last time running the event with his plans to retire at the end of the championships, but he still has one more race when he’ll anchor the Jamaican 4×100 relay team next Saturday.

Amid his celebration, Gatlin took a moment to recognize Bolt and the significance of the end of the GOAT’s career. He bowed to his fellow runner before the pair hugged it out.
