Ed Sheeran lands role on new medieval drama (The Bastard Executioner ) created by Sons Of Anarchy mastermind Kurt Sutter

multi platinum singer makes a switch from music to movie...

He's one of the worlds best-loved musicians.

But Ed Sheeran is set to make the transition from singing to acting thanks to his brand new role in gory new medieval show, The Bastard Executioner.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 24-year-old star has been cast as 'ambitious and deadly' character Sir Cormac in his pal Kurt Sutter’s upcoming FX drama

Filming began this month in the UK and the all-star ensemble includes True Blood’s Stephen Moyer and Sons Of Anarchy's Katey Sagal.

The Bastard Executioner, which will hit TV screens this autumn, counts Brian Grazer and Paris Barclay among its executive producers.

The medieval drama focuses on a 14th century warrior who becomes a journeyman executioner - and Ed will play 'ambitious and deadly' character Sir Cormac

Ed's collaboration with Kurt Sutter comes after the pair exchanged tweets about Ed's love of biking drama Sons Of Anarchy.

Show creator Sutter then invited the BRIT Award-winner to record a cover of Foy Vance's Make It Rain for the final series of the popular show, which reportedly led to a full-on role in his next project

Ed previously teased fans about his move into acting, revealing he hoped to surprise people with his choice of genre.

'It’s a medieval TV show and it’s really, really dark,' he told The Sun earlier this year.

'It’s gruesome and it’s going to be fine because my friend wrote it... I feel like people would expect me to be in a rom-com or something, so I wanted to be in something people don’t expect me to

This won't be the loveble singer's first foray into acting, however, since he made a cameo appearance on the live episode of sitcom Undateable earlier this year.
